All costumes are inspired by Japanese street fashion, more specifically: Lolita. Lolita takes heavy inspiration from western dolls. Because of its fantasy storybook quality, it fit Into the Woods incredibly well. Some characters break free from Lolita due to their nature, but still stick closely to other Japanese street fashions.
